People who do not read history are doomed to repeat it

Yesterday there was a very interesting lecture about what is the preception of forigners about Iranians. It was really interesting that the things we see now has been there in Iran's culture for years..since 17 century...and even if you try to change it through law or ethics like religion, due to the living environment, its unlikely to be very sucessful. As my dad puts it, because of different wars and dinesties ruling Iran for centuries, and each one had different sets of rules, people have come up with their own sets of rules as common sence. Iranians do understand the meaning behind the hidden figure of speeches and exagerations, however for a forigner, it seems strange but one have to be in a culture and learn their language to be able to understand the behavior of those cultures..generalizing a culture based on first impressions is not a good way of jugding. Iranians are precieved to be very indirect, due to different political situations they have been in for centuries, unfortunately this has become part of the regular life. I personally would rather be direct about my ways of life rather than putting things in such an indirect ways that just complicates the situations and cause miscommunication and finally causing misunderstandings.
